WINDOWS SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

Business Unit: SME Neutraubling

Overall Purpose Statement

This position is key to manage the European SME Server groups.
The Windows Systems Administrator is responsible for low to high-end server administration in a large-scale, multi-site and multi-national production environment. In this position you will be primarily responsible for systems management, support and maintenance of Windows Operating Systems and also provide a backup for the Unix Sytems Administrator. This includes Windows Operating Systems as well as server applications like Exchange, MSSQL and various other 3rd party applications. Individual will participate in monitoring, and evaluating the performance of server systems. As SA you will be responsible for providing escalation support for unresolved client issues as escalated by customer operations.
Candidate will work closely with other members of the technology staff, including other systems administrators, network engineers, quality assurance, and customer operations.
The role will contain the responsibility of handling special requirements of our OEM clients and ensuring the documentation of non-standard setups. A further responsibility is to train and educate Technical Support staff to enable them to solve customer escalations as far as possible within their permissions.

Key Duties – Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Systems Administration

  • General Windows Server system management & administration tasks
  • Fault finding
  • Assists with software and hardware upgrades
  • Assists with technical tasks to be completed with other groups
  • May be asked to perform on-call duties and occasional travel when required
  • Work Issues through Trouble Ticketing Systems and phone escalations
  • Works with other Admins to develop documentation
  • Technical Support training
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Description of the Relationships and Roles

The person in this position will:

  • Report to the Operations manager for day-to-day activities
  • Acquire technical assistance from his SA colleagues in the US
  • Co-ordinate tasks with other Verio personnel in the world
  • Work as part of the SME Customer Operations team
  • Will not have direct reports, but may be required to occasionally provide coverage of the SME Operations manager role.

Skills and Experiences

Compulsory

  • Fluent in English and German
  • Familiarity with networking technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, SNMP, SSH, SMTP, LDAP, etc.
  • Familiarity with storage and storage networking technologies, including NFS, SAN, and NAS.
  • Familiarity with Server hardware and raid configurations.
  • Knowledge of Windows Systems.
  • Knowledge of Exchange/MSSQL.
  • Experience with administration in a heterogeneous Unix/Windows/Linux environment.
  • Knowledge of scripting technologies like Perl, PHP, Unix Shell
  • Knowledge of network and system documentation, including knowledge of Microsoft Visio, and Office.
  • Sound knowledge of Windows installation and configuration.
  • Performance monitoring and tuning. Analysis of performance data.
  • TCP/IP, including DNS, and DHCP.
  • Knowledge of intranet and web browsers, creating web pages.

Preferred

  • Basic understanding of Unix Server technologies

UNIX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

You will also act as backup for the Windows Systems Administrator. Individual will participate in monitoring, and
evaluating the performance of server systems. As SA you will be responsible for providing escalation support for unresolved client issues as escalated by customer operations.
Candidate will work closely with other members of the technology staff, ncluding other systems administrators, network engineers, quality assurance, and ustomer operations.
